Week Nine

I think that it is a shame that people are still arguing about this topic. I have found that most of the people who are upset about free downloading of music are the big stars who already have more money than they know what to do with. I often hear them saying things about "I'm not worried about the money but what about independent artists?" I really don't think that independent musicians are concerned with a bunch of people downloading their music for free. I work for a few local bands in the area and for every show about 100 Cd's are burned of their music and then passed out to the public at shows. Smaller artists usually have websites where their music can be downloaded for free. For example, here is the band I work for, Rigid: www.rigidband.com (caution: If you don't really like Hardcore Metal then you may want to pass but the site is pretty cool). Also even major bands want fans to download their music for free. The band Weezer put every song up on the last two albums for fans to download and comment upon before the albums were even released. They still turned out to be high sellers for them.
Also, what is the difference between taping something off of the radio and downloading a song to my computer?
I believe in copyright laws that protect peoples music from being used or copied in ways they don't want but if it comes to just listening to their music for enjoyment, I think it should be free for anyone.

Kory,
I love your blog and the ease with which you can write. Initally, I thought, I wouldn't enjoy blogging or writing my thoughts down. Now, I'm holding my own and I am enjoying myself, along with learning something new. Learning can be fun. I was able to put my sunset picture on my blog, check it out.
