Week 3

I really liked the Bloglines exercise. I added a few things that I would be interested in like "24 hour museum" because my major is Art History and I would like to eventually become a museum curator. I also added "A Painting a Day" which allows artists to post paintings for sale. Another feed that I added is " Back in the Day: 1950's and 60's". I chose to add this blog because I am facinated with the 1950's and like anything that involves that time period. I added Mary Anne''s blog so that I could keep up with the new innovations that she has come up with. The last blog that I added is "Dictionary.com: Spanish word of the day". I am trying to learn Spanish and I think that this might help me a little bit along the way.
As for Grokker. I didn't really like it. I found it to be very complicated and complex and when I am searching for something I would much rather it be simple and to the point, however, I do understand the benifits of Grokker and may try it again in the future.
I think that I am a visual learner. In order for me to accept information and interpret it I need to see it. I think that learn 2.0 goes with my learing style as it involves a lot of reading to fully understand the tasks. I also like the fact that we are actually able to try out the technology that we are learning about.

Netflix and the Library

So I went to Technorati to do the Adventure exercise and I read that the Exeter Public Library in Rhode Island has partnered with Netflix to bring more DVDs to their patrons. At first I thought that it was a pretty dumb idea but after I thought about it for a few minutes. I think that in some cases it would prove to be pretty efficient and helpful. There have not been many times where I have not been able to fill a patron request in regards to a DVD here at OCLS but in the smaller systems like Osceola where the DVD supply is limited, this system of using Netflix as a backup may actually prove quite beneficial. I will be interested in reading how the partnership between Exeter and Netflix works out in the future. If you are interested in reading about this, here is the link:

First Blog

I blog a lot, probably everyday and it never seems hard but I am finding it difficult to figure out what to write about here. I'm sure it will get easier as the course progresses. I really like working for the library system. I've been here a little over a year and everyday it seems like there is another challenge to take on, which keeps me interested in the job.
I'm a TCSS at South Creek, which is a great place to work and I plan on being here until I am done with college in a few years.
I'm really looking forward to Camp Savvy this year. We are including a lot of programs like MEEZ avatar and Google Sketch Up that we have never taught before to the public, at South Creek at least. I have used MEEZ before but I am not familiar with Gimp or Audacity or Google Sketch Up so I am really interested in learning these programs.
